Mr. Welpy served, with 32 years of service, in the RAF Regiment. He served in Malaya with a locally raised Malay squadron on Counter Terrorist operations from RAAF Butterworth in the late 1950’s. Whilst on attachment to AWRE Aldermaston in 1958, took part in the final British atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons at Christmas Island, Pacific Ocean. Operational service: in Aden, the Gulf and Oman, (Dohfar). Exchange officer with the USAF Security Police, in Washington DC. Staff appointments in Germany and the UK. Retired, at own request in 1984, in rank of Wing Commander.
